What Is It About Wheat?

Wheat is more than a grain, it's a biological signal of well-being, especially when it's fresh out of the oven. Unfortunately, it's also become one of the most common allergens and immune system sensitizers in the American diet. Because there are wheat-sensitivities and wheat allergies among us, we've been on a personal quest to find suitable substitutes for our Daily Bread. And so, here we present a running list of the best and worst we've encountered on the road to a wheat-free wellville.

We'll Pass on these Gluten Free Breakfast Bars

Putting together a decent wheat-free breakfast in a hurry is a big challenge. So we were quite excited to see Glutino's Gluten Free Breakfast Bars on the shelf at our local health food emporium. Unfortunately, the blueberry variety we chose to try was a big disappointment. "Tasted like a gross fig newton," said one taster, who is a big fan of blueberries and breakfast bars and fig newtons.
